Applying for a position

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer, and all applications are assessed on the merit of each applicant against the key aspects of the role.

The process used to select successful applicants is as follows:

Your Application

Your success in obtaining an interview is based on how well your experience, qualifications, skills and knowledge meet the specific requirements of the advertised position.

Your application needs to contain the following:

  • Covering letter

    Your covering letter should highlight your qualifications, skills and experience as to why you believe you are the best applicant for the position.

  • Resume

    Your resume should outline your education/qualifications, employment history and interests. As your application will be one of many read by the selection committee, it needs to be clear, concise and highlight your capabilities and experience.

  • Claim for the Position (Key Selection Criteria)

    A critical part of your online application will be your responses outlining how you meet the identified selection criteria. These will usually be 6 – 8 key elements of the role which are clearly aligned to the content of the Position Description. It is important that you give a clear explanation of how your relevant qualifications, skills and experience satisfy these.

  • Completed Online Application

    You must complete in full all requested information on the online application. This is an important part of your application and must be completed even if it means duplication of information from other documents you may attach. Part of the online application requires you to nominate two referees who can be contacted to comment on your employment and work performance. The referees must be current and at least one needs to be a current or recent direct supervisor. No referees will be contacted prior to an interview.

  • Attachments

    It is recommended that your cover letter and resume is compatible with Microsoft Word or is in PDF format. Applicants wanting further information on the position are strongly encouraged to contact the supervisor for the position. The contact information for the supervisor is found on the Position Description under “for further information”.

Short Listing

This involves reviewing all of the applications and deciding which candidates will be progressed to interview stage.

An applicant may meet the key aspects of the position and yet, not be selected for an interview. This usually occurs when there are large numbers of applicants, some of whom meet the critical elements on a more competitive basis.

Child Related Positions: if the position is in child-related work, it will be stated on the position description. Applicants for child related work must have obtained or applied for a 'Working with Children Check' clearance and provide details of their application for or of their current clearance.

Police Check: if the position is designated as requiring an Australian National Police Check, it will be stated on the Position Description. Applicants for these positons must have obtained or applied for an Australian National Police Check and provide details of their application.

The Interview

The interview will be conducted by a panel of three or more members, and consist of structured questions relating to the key selection criteria. Please be prepared to provide examples demonstrating your ability to meet the criteria.

Next Steps in the Selection Process

As part of the selection process the following assessments may be conducted by an external provider following the interview:

  • Medical and Audio Examination
  • Educational Qualifications
  • Drug and Alcohol Screening
  • Behavioural Assessment
  • Physical Functional Assessment
  • Criminal Records Check
  • Working with Children Check
  • Eligibility to work in Australia (Visa verification)
  • Referee Checks

Following the interview and positive confirmation from the relevant assessments, you may be selected as the preferred candidate. If so, you will then be verbally offered the position. Upon accepting the position, you will receive confirmation of the offer of employment in writing.

Recruitment Timeframes

Please allow three weeks from closing date for processing your application. We will contact short listed candidates by phone and advise if they have been successful for an interview. If you are unsuccessful, following shortlisting you will be notified by email. If you attend an interview and your application is unsuccessful, you will be notified by phone and by email.
