The Albury community came together in recognition of National Reconciliation Week (NRW) with a special morning tea on Tuesday 27 May.

The event marked the beginning of NRW - a time for all Australians to reflect on our shared histories, celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and achievements, and renew our commitment to reconciliation.

The morning began in the Murray Art Museum Albury (MAMA), with a Welcome to Country by Aunty Edna Stewart and a didgeridoo performance from Tim Church.

Local primary school students from Springdale Heights Public School and St Patrick’s Parish School attended, along with children from the Yarrunga Early Learning Centre.

The Wiradjuri city flags will be flying across the city right through to NAIDOC Week in a visible symbol of respect, recognition and unity.

This year’s theme, ‘Bridging Now to Next’, encourages all Australians to recognise the threads that connect our past, present and future, and to walk forward together toward a more inclusive nation.

Albury Mayor Kevin Mack said the event offered a meaningful moment for community connection.

“Reconciliation Week is a time to reflect, learn and take meaningful steps together.

“By coming together at events like this, we show our shared commitment to respect, understanding, and building a stronger, more inclusive community.”

This annual gathering continues to grow in strength and spirit – an open and powerful way for people of all ages to engage with the journey of reconciliation.
