'Adopt, Don't Shop' encourages rehoming of rescue animals

Monday 8 May 2023

Owning a pet can be a rewarding experience, but can also come with significant upfront costs, especially if purchasing direct from a breeder.  As a component of the popular 'Keep track of your Best Mate' initiative, AlburyCity has launched 'Adopt, Don't Shop' to encourage rehoming of rescue animals at the Albury Animal Care Centre.

Community members who adopt a pet from 8 May to 30 June 2023 could save hundreds of dollars with subsidised registration, microchipping, desexing and first round vaccination.

The only cost to the new pet owner will be an adoption fee of $80 for cats, and $110 for dogs, and a Council registration fee if outside of NSW.

Animals available for rehoming will be posted on the Albury Animal Care Centre's Facebook page. Community members will be able to express their interest by filling in an online form, and if their application is successful a meet and greet with the animal will be organised.

Successful adoptees will also receive a showbag full of goodies for their new pet!

AlburyCity Mayor Kylie King said the Albury Animal Care Centre sees many rescue animals coming through its doors who are looking for a loving home.

"Many people may not be aware that we have lots of beautiful animals coming through our Animal Care Centre every week, with many successful adoptions taking place," Mayor King said.

"So if you're looking for a new furry friend, make sure you follow the centre's Facebook page."
