Future Now exhibition inspires a better way of living

Wednesday 8 March 2023

The Albury LibraryMuseum is proud to welcome the Australian Museum's Future Now exhibition between Wednesday 8 March and Sunday 2 April.

Future Now is a touring exhibition developed to highlight positive solutions for the future to tackle the impacts of climate change.

This interactive exhibition demonstrates how local communities can create a brighter future and a more sustainable way of living through current technologies and approaches. Centred on three dioramas including Smart Towns, Clever Homes and Caring for our Country, communities can discover ways to help create safe, clean and healthy futures.

Australian Museum Director and CEO, Kim McKay AO said that Future Now is part of a suite of exhibitions and activities around climate change, including the newly established Australian Museum Climate Solutions Centre which presents the very latest cutting-edge research and technological solutions to inspire commitment and change.

“As Australia’s first museum, and custodian of our vast collection, the Australian Museum is dedicated to inspiring conversation and change. As a leader in natural history and scientific research, we are in a position to champion action on climate change,” Ms McKay said.

Dr Jenny Newell, Manager - Climate Change Projects at the Australian Museum, said the idea behind the exhibition Future Now is to engage and inform the public about ways we can all work towards a more sustainable future.

“Great cities and urban spaces are sensitive to our environment and our cultural histories. We’ve designed the three mobile and interactive pods with solutions for the home, urban and rural living as well as bigger initiatives for our country. We hope to engage local audiences in this significant issue - the sustainability of our planet,” Dr Newell said.

AlburyCity Mayor Kylie King said bringing the exhibition to Albury ties in with key strategies and targets set in the Albury Local Housing Strategy and Towards Albury 2050 Community Strategic Plan.

"One of the key strategies in our Albury Local Housing Strategy is to encourage the design and delivery of sustainable homes, and undertake education initatves to encourage and promote sustainable development. Our community also set a target to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2040 during the development of our Towards Albury 2050 Community Strategic Plan."

"This exhibition is an opportunity for both residents and those in the local housing and construction industry to learn more about how we can work together to tackle climate change, and reach the ambitious targets we set for ourselves," Mayor King said.
