New Theatre Season Electrifying the Arts

Monday 6 February 2023

Albury Entertainment Centre has launched its annual Theatre Season for 2023, Electrifying the Arts. The season features six sizzling new productions sourced especially for the Albury Wodonga community, that are sure to spark up the stage.

The season starts with On By Circa, a contemporary circus performance following eight strangers whose lives cross in the courtyard of an apartment block. Over the course of a single night they will fight, love, laugh, and find moments of beauty and transcendence. On by Cira is an unmissable and powerful new work infused with fierce humanity and exceptional acrobatics.

Next up is Roald Dahl's gruesome twosome The Twits, ready to delight and disgust, in equal measure. Mr and Mrs Twit are the nastiest couple you could ever hope (not) to meet. Both are on a quest to be meaner than the other – but, is there someone out there who can out-twit the Twits? Packed with Dahlicious mischief, hilarious mayhem and big belly laughs, The Twits is an unmissable fun for all ages, from shake & stir theatre co.

The Australian Ballet is back on the road for its 60th Anniversary Gala. The ballet will be celebrating its diamond anniversary with a tour of new, contemporary, and classical works as it enters a golden era of artistic excellence and innovation.

Later this year we'll welcome RECKŌNING – The Sounds of Woven Souls to the stage, a powerful celebration of indigenous culture through storytelling, original songs, and dance, tackling the modern-day effects of racism and intergenerational trauma. The show is a recognition of past injustices, a journey through understanding, and a celebration of indigenous cultures' survival, creativity, and strength.

Come and celebrate, experience, and contribute to real, live music-making with Taikoz's Side by Side. The show features five World Premieres of new works by emerging composers from within the ensemble and Karlin Love - the winner of Taikoz’s 2020 Composer Competition.

And to wrap up the season, Australia beloved musical treasure Marcia Hines brings her 'Still Shining' 50th Anniversary Concert Tour to Albury. From the early days of ‘Fire and Rain’ to the Discotheque album and all the way through to the 2022 release of ‘The Gospel According to Marcia’, each performance will encapsulate Marcia’s extraordinary vocal range and recording career. Expect two hours plus of memories, musicality, and a little madness.

Albury Entertainment Centre Venue Manager, Brendan Maher, said the 2023 Theatre Season has a broad variety of art forms offering something for all ages and families within our community.
