$2 million will be allocated towards a bike loop to improve the experience for people walking, riding, driving and spending time in the busy Albury CBD, and $500k will see community safety improvements across the growing Lavington CBD.
Mayor Kylie King joined Member for Albury, Justin Clancy today for the exciting announcement.
"We are a very active community so funding for improvements to safety and connectivity in both our Albury and Lavington CBD's is critical is we are to provide the services and infrastructure that our community are telling us they need," said Mayor King.
"We know many locals choose to leave the car at home and explore our CBD's by foot or bike, so this announcement will be really appreciated.
"These projects have been in the planning for a number of years, so we are really looking forward to their delivery once final designs can be completed," Mayor King said.
The Albury CBD Bike Loop will deliver almost 5km of safe, accessible bike lanes along Kiewa, Smollett, Swift, and David Streets, improving safety for all road users, supporting a better connnected community, reducing the delamnd for parking and promoting exercise.
In Lavington, 5 raised pedestrian crossings, including lighting, will be built at the roundabout on Sanders Rd and Prune St, the roundabout on Breen St and Griffith Rd, and one more on Breen Street.
Both projects will make our CBDs safer and improve accessible for people walking and riding, connect key destinations, and make it easier for everyone to get to and through our CBDs.
"The recent community consultation undertaken as part of the MOVE: Albury Wodonga Integrated Transport Strategy highlighted that our community want choice when it comes to future transport options, and to be able to move around our busy centres freely and safely," added Mayor King.
"These projects will deliver on that desire, and we are really looking forward to this projects kicking off in the near future.
"I would also like to acknowledge our hard-working Council team for their successful application, and thank the NSW Government for their continued focus on improving transport across our region."
Further specific information on the timing of both projects will be provided to the community as project planning progresses.
