From 1 January 2023, AlburyCity will be powering all of our streetlights and large facility sites like Lavington Sports Ground, Lauren Jackson Stadium, Library Museum, Airport, Albury Waste Management Centre and our Water Treatment Plants with 100% renewable Electricity!
We are delighted to announce that we are one of Seven New South Wales councils who have signed a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to access 100% renewable electricity for our street lighting and large site requirements, thanks to a tender and contract facilitated and negotiated by Procurement Australia, and awarded to Red Energy! With Australian owned Red Energy, we will source Solar power from Metz Solar Farm located in Armadale NSW along and with firming power provided by Snowy Hydro!
For our Smaller facilities like our parks, recreational sites, depots, carparks and pumping stations, we are excited to enter into another long-term contract for 100% GreenPower with Shell Energy! This NSW Government contract gives Council and our community confidence we are purchasing electricity from genuinely renewable sources!
This is a momentous step forward for our region, our community and Council’s commitment to provide cleaner and more sustainable solutions to fight the effects of climate change.
Five things we love about signing onto these Agreements are:
- We’ve secured 100% Renewable and/or GreenPower from January 2023 onwards
- We’ve delivered early on our 2025 targets in powering Council with 100% renewable electricity as identified in Towards Albury 2050 Community Strategic Plan
- We have secured fixed and firm long term energy prices in a difficult and volatile market, future proofing our requirements and doing so at better than current market rates
- We will reduce our Carbon emissions by over 12,000 tonnes CO2e per year
- We are one step closer towards Net Zero emissions by 2050!
