Material Recovery Facility

The Construction and Demolition Material Recovery Facility (C&D MRF) is a major project that we’re working on to make our waste management centre even more efficient, environmentally-friendly and easier to use for customers.

Material recovery facility (MRF)

2022-2023 Budget: $10M

Located within the Albury Waste Management Centre, the introduction of the MRF will enable the facility to recover up to 80% of dry recyclables catering mainly for the business sector of our community. Construction and demolition material along with additional dry waste collected on site will be put through the MRF separation process. This  separation process will increase material recovered and divert material away from burial at the landfill.

Using cutting-edge waste management screens and trained staff, the highly specialised waste management plant will receive, sort and prepare single stream recyclable materials for re-manufacture. Materials that will be sorted and recycled will include, but not limited to:

  • Bricks
  • Timber
  • Metals
  • Concrete
  • Cardboard
  • Hard plastics

In addition to improving diversion rates, the project will positively contribute to extending the landfill’s life span, improving visitor experience through the ease of waste disposal and providing an environment that is safer for our workers. It’s envisaged the MRF will employee 16 staff from the local community.
