Albury Entertainment Centre Convention Wing Redevelopment

We’re proposing a major redevelopment of the Albury Entertainment Centre (AEC) Convention Wing to create a leading regional events, conference and function venue.

Located in Albury’s Cultural Precinct, the proposed redevelopment will establish an innovative, iconic and inspiring venue, taking advantage of Albury’s strategic location between Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.

The redevelopment will significantly expand and enhance the existing venue, built in 1972 and last upgraded in 1993, which has become limited in its ability to meet the needs of the modern convention market.

This project has been in planning for several years, with community engagement having previously been undertaken during the feasibility study which resulted in a preferred design and set of guiding principles being endorsed by council.

Key features of the concept design include:

  • Expansion of the Convention Wing to cater for large-scale business, conference and tourism events.
  • Doubling conference seating capacity to 2000 patrons and increased exhibition space.
  • Improved connection to QEII, MAMA, the LibraryMuseum and Retro Lane Café (Cultural Precinct).
  • Development of a formal plaza and meeting place at the venue’s entrance to better facilitate larger conferences/concurrent events.

Architectural design firms Peddle Thorpe and Furlong & Kain were commissioned to develop the concept designs which we are excited to share with you.

The Southern Regional Planning Panel have granted Development Consent for the project to progress to the next phase.

What happens next?

AlburyCity has advertised for suitably qualified consultants to progress the detailed design. This phase of the project is expected to take approximately 12 months.

Upon receiving final approval detailed designs, demolition and constructions requirements will be undertaken with an expectation to go to tender in mid to late 2025.

Construction works are set to begin in late 2025 with completion and opening late 2027.
