About the Project

The project covers Olive St between Smollett St and Dean St and includes:

New line marking to clearly define all angle parking spaces;
Moving the taxi rank to David St, next to the car park behind Regent Cinemas;
New street trees; and,
Improved facilities for people walking.

These changes will make it safer and easier for people to walk through the area. New pedestrian islands mid-block on both sides of the street, will help people cross Olive St more safely.

Parking will also be improved, with all angle parking spaces clearly marked. Three 15-minute parking spaces will be provided near Chemist Warehouse, while the remaining spaces will continue to offer one-hour parking. A taxi zone will also remain on Olive Street for quick pick-up and drop-off.

Relocating the taxi rank will create more space to improve the look and feel of Olive St and support outdoor dining. The new location on David St was chosen because it provides better access to taxis for the eastern end of the CBD, including the cinema precinct, nearby car parks and late-night venues.

Security services provided at the taxi rank will move with it. Security guards will continue to be on site from 11pm to 5.30am on Friday and Saturday nights to support the safety of passengers and drivers.

These improvements support the goals of Council's CBD Parking Strategy [4.26 MB | PDF] and MOVE: Albury Wodonga Integrated Transport Strategy [63.49 MB | PDF] by improving parking and facilities for people walking as well as providing better taxi access across the CBD.
