Access and inclusion
Around one in five Australians lives with disability, including disabilities that may not be immediately apparent. AlburyCity considers access and inclusion when planning services, facilities, information and employment opportunities.
Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022–2026
AlburyCity developed its Disability Inclusion Action Plan following community and employee engagement undertaken under the Disability Inclusion Act 2014 (NSW). The plan was developed in recognition of our responsibility to remove barriers and support people with disability to participate equally in community life.
The purpose of the DIAP is to ensure that access and inclusion are recognised as core business and integrated into existing planning systems so that employees at every level consider inclusion of people with disability in their role. The Plan sets out the strategies and actions that Council will deliver to enable people with disability to have greater access to Council information, services and facilities. The Plan will be implemented over four years and includes actions across Council that will assist us to make our services and facilities more inclusive.
Through the DIAP, we will aim to provide universal access, remove barriers and provide opportunities for learning and career advancement equality.
Access Advisory Group
The Access Advisory Group provides advice on barriers affecting people with disability and opportunities to improve access across Albury.
Members include people with disability, carers, disability sector representatives and other community members with an interest in accessibility.
The group meets every two months and advises Council on:
- access to Council programs, services and facilities
- proposed programs and developments
- community awareness of disability and accessibility
- pedestrian safety and access to buildings.

Bin lids for residents with vision impairment
Bin lids are now available for residents in Albury who are blind or vision impaired. The lids are stamped with icons identifying each bin type, as well as information about what goes in the bin and which side goes to the road on bin night.
The lids available include:
- Waste (Red lid): Embossed with a square
- Organics (Green lid): Embossed with a circle
- Recyclables (Yellow lid): Embossed with a triangle
These lids are available to residents at no cost.
