We recognise the enduring cultures, histories and knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their significant contribution to our community.
We acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonisation and past government policies, including the dispossession and removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples from Country.
AlburyCity is committed to working in partnership with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to strengthen relationships, support self-determination and advance reconciliation.

Our reconciliation journey
AlburyCity’s first Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan guided our work from 2022 to 2024. Its 71 actions have now been completed.
This work helped establish the Aboriginal Advisory Committee, strengthen relationships with local Elders and community members and increase recognition of Wiradjuri language, culture and stories.
Our Draft Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan 2026–2028 builds on these achievements and sets out our next commitments.
Aboriginal Advisory Committee
The Aboriginal Advisory Committee provides local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community members with a formal opportunity to advise AlburyCity on plans, strategies and decisions that affect their lives.
The Committee meets quarterly and helps strengthen community voices in Council decision-making.

National Sorry Day

A day to acknowledge members of the Stolen Generations and the ongoing impact of the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families and communities.
National Reconciliation Week

A national week encouraging all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and consider how they can contribute to reconciliation.
NAIDOC Week
First Sunday to second Sunday in July
Celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
