Stories of Antarctica

Find out what it's like to live and work in Antarctica.

Join ABC Goulburn Murray’s, Sandra Moon in conversation with Ice Pact curator Jorg Metz, Todd Heery and Albury local, CSU Associate Professor Dr Melanie Massaro who will share fascinating stories of their time spent living and working in Antarctica. Dr Melanie Massaro will share stories and learnings from her 12 (yes, 12!) seasons in Antarctica studying birdlife. She will also be joined by Todd Heery, who grew up in Albury and in 2020 took the opportunity of a lifetime to work as a plumber at Australia’s Mawson Station. Hear about Todd’s incredible story and the unexpected impact of COVID on the remote station. After the talk Jorg will lead participants in an informative guided tour of the exhibition and share his experience as Casey Station Antarctic Laboratory manager during the summer season of 2011/12.
