Property Strategy progressing key opportunities across Albury

Several Council-owned properties across Albury are set to play a new role in supporting housing, investment and community outcomes, with a number of sites progressing towards sale and future use under AlburyCity's Property Strategy.

By bringing vacant and underutilised land to market, Council is creating opportunities for future development while strengthening its long-term financial sustainability and capacity to invest in the services and infrastructure the community relies on.

Adopted in 2025, the Property Strategy provides a framework for reviewing Council-owned land and assets to ensure they continue to deliver value for the community and support future growth.

Albury Mayor Kevin Mack said the strategy was helping Council unlock opportunities in vacant or unoccupied assets while strengthening its financial position.

"We're taking a strategic approach to our property holdings, ensuring assets with development or redevelopment potential can support growth, investment and community outcomes."

Council is progressing with the sale of the following properties:

  • 466 Breen Street, Lavington: Council has accepted an offer for purchase of the former Lavington Occasional Child Care Association site, with settlement expected later this year.
  • 622 Chant Street, 566 Norris Street and 19 Newman Nook, Lavington: Preparations have been completed for these vacant residential lots, in readiness for presentation to market.
  • 355 Kaitlers Road, Lavington: Council is progressing plans to take this residential land to market, with future development required to include a minimum 10% affordable housing for the community.

Mayor Mack said the review was helping unlock options for future investment, housing and community benefit.

"As our city grows, it's important that we continue to make smart decisions about Council assets. These sales and development opportunities will help support future options for Council, generating returns that can be reinvested into the services and infrastructure our community relies on."

Council is also reviewing community leases and licences to ensure arrangements are fair, consistent and transparent, while continuing to support local organisations delivering important services and activities across our community.

Updates on property sales and leasing changes will continue to be shared through Council reports and community communications as key milestones are reached.
