Albury’s Carols by Candlelight finds a new home at Noreuil Park Oval

Albury’s much-loved Carols by Candlelight will have a new home this year, with the free community celebration moving to Noreuil Park Oval on Thursday 17 December. 

Noreuil Park Oval’s open, natural setting near the iconic Murray River will provide a fresh backdrop for one of Albury’s favourite Christmas traditions, giving families plenty of space to gather and enjoy an evening of live entertainment, food and festive fun. 

The move comes as the capacity of QEII Square is temporarily reduced while the Albury Entertainment Centre’s Convention Wing redevelopment continues. 

Following an assessment of potential venues, Noreuil Park Oval was selected for its central location, generous open space and existing infrastructure that allows it to accommodate the community event. 

The site offers easy access to Oddies Creek Park, space for food vendors along Wodonga Place and nearby parking at Australia Park. 

AlburyCity has extensive experience delivering large-scale events along the Noreuil and Riverside Precincts, including Riverside Vibes, which attracted around 17,000 people over two days, and the Upstream Opening Gala, which drew more than 5,000 people. 

Albury Mayor Kevin Mack said the new location would bring a fresh feel to the annual Christmas celebration. 

“Carols by Candlelight is an important part of our community’s Christmas celebrations, and this year we have the opportunity to experience it in a completely different setting,” Mayor Mack said. 

“Noreuil Park Oval gives families plenty of room to spread out, enjoy the park and come together for a relaxed evening of Christmas entertainment and festive fun.” 

Increased safety arrangements will be in place at Noreuil Park Oval, including temporary traffic changes, controlled pedestrian crossings, event fencing and professional security. The Albury Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) will provide water-based support. 

Audition submissions for Carols by Candlelight performers are currently open, with local performers encouraged to complete the Audition Application Form by Monday 31 August.
