AlburyCity appoints Jason Gordon as Chief Executive Officer

AlburyCity has appointed highly accomplished public sector executive Jason Gordon as its new Chief Executive Officer, with Mr Gordon commencing on 8 September 2026.

Albury Mayor Kevin Mack said Councillors were delighted to secure a leader of Mr Gordon's calibre following an extensive national recruitment process.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Jason Gordon to AlburyCity," Mayor Mack said.

"Jason brings an extraordinary depth of experience across local government, state government and major public sector organisations, with a strong record of delivering outcomes in complex environments.

"His background in planning, infrastructure, asset management, governance, financial stewardship and community engagement aligns strongly with the priorities of Council and our community."

A proud Barkindji man, Mr Gordon has built a distinguished career spanning more than three decades, bringing a values‑driven leadership approach grounded in integrity and community connection. Most recently, he served as Executive Director Operations at the NSW Environment Protection Authority, where he was responsible for leading complex operational and regulatory functions across the State.

His previous roles include Acting Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director Services at Water Infrastructure NSW, senior executive positions within Transport for NSW, and CEO/ General Manager of Wingecarribee Shire Council.

Mayor Mack said Mr Gordon's proven ability to lead large and complex organisations through change was a key consideration in Council's decision.

"Throughout his career, Jason has demonstrated an exceptional ability to bring together strategy, technical expertise and practical delivery," he said.

"He has led major organisational reforms, managed significant infrastructure and asset portfolios, strengthened governance and financial performance, and built strong relationships with communities, governments and industry.

"Importantly, he understands local government. He knows the challenges councils face and has a strong track record of delivering outcomes while maintaining a focus on community expectations and service delivery."

Mayor Mack said Councillors have provided Mr Gordon with a clear mandate to strengthen AlburyCity's financial sustainability, enhance organisational performance and continue building community confidence in Council.

"Our community rightly expects a Council that is financially responsible, delivers quality services and remains focused on a sustainable future.

"Jason brings the leadership experience and capability to help us achieve those objectives.

"His experience in planning, infrastructure delivery, asset stewardship, operational performance and stakeholder engagement will position AlburyCity strongly as we continue to grow and meet the opportunities ahead."

Mr Gordon's appointment follows a rigorous recruitment process that attracted strong interest from senior local government and public sector leaders across Australia.

"Jason is a respected leader with a reputation for integrity, professionalism and delivering results," Mayor Mack added.

"Importantly, Jason and his family have indicated their intention to relocate to Albury. We know how important it is for our CEO to be part of the community, and we look forward to welcoming them. We are excited to work with our new CEO as AlburyCity continues to grow and evolve.”
