AlburyCity announces changes to OOSH services at two schools
AlburyCity has announced an important update regarding Out of School Hours (OOSH) services at Albury Public School and Albury North Public School.
Following careful consideration, the decision has been made to no longer offer OOSH care at both schools from 25 September 2026. AlburyCity will now support the Department of Education with the transition to a new provider.
Before school care at Albury Public School, will also no longer be offered beyond Friday 21 August.
The decision reflects a range of factors, including workforce attraction and retention challenges, child safety considerations, increasing regulatory and compliance obligations, and the responsibilities associated with Council’s role as the Approved Provider.
After considering the circumstances at both school sites, Council has determined it cannot continue to provide these services while maintaining the required standards of safety, quality and governance.
AlburyCity Acting Chief Executive Officer Gael Evans-Barr said the decision had not been taken lightly.
“We understand this is difficult news for the children, families and staff who have been part of these services, and we recognise the important role OOSH care plays in supporting families,” Ms Evans-Barr said.
“The safety, wellbeing and best interests of children must remain our highest priority, and as an Approved Provider we have a responsibility to ensure our services can continue to operate safely, effectively and in line with our legislative and regulatory obligations.
“We are committed to working collaboratively with the NSW Department of Education to support a smooth transition at both school sites.”
Parents and families using the services have been notified of the decision.
Council also recognises the contribution of employees who support children and families through these services. Council will work directly with them to provide information throughout the transition.
The decision applies only to OOSH services at Albury Public School and Albury North Public School. All other AlburyCity-operated OOSH services and Banjora Children’s Centre will continue to operate as normal.
The decision has been made in response to the specific circumstances of these two services and is separate from Council’s broader work towards long-term financial sustainability.
“We sincerely thank our employees, families and children for their support. It has been a privilege to provide OOSH care to the Albury Public School and Albury North Public School communities,” said Ms Evans-Barr.
“We are grateful for the relationships we have built and the opportunity to support so many local families.”
