Garden festival to grow and thrive

Green thumbs are invited to leap into spring for what will become the biggest and best garden festival between Canberra and Melbourne.

AlburyCity’s new headline festival, Gardenesque, has been officially launched in the Botanic Gardens.

Gardenesque will be held over two days in October, creating a colourful and inspiring celebration of everything that’s good about gardens and gardening.

Festival highlights will include:

  • Appearances by Jerry Colby-Williams from ABC TV’s Gardening Australia
  • Flower competitions for experts and hobbyists
  • Exhibitor markets
  • Children’s entertainment, including craft and music by the Vegetable Plot Band
  • Music, fine food, beer and wine for the adults
  • Cubby house construction, and
  • Backyard and Beyond – tips and tricks to get growing in every backyard

AlburyCity Mayor Kevin Mack said Gardenesque would be a creative, fun-filled festival for the expert gardener and the backyard hobbyist alike.

“Our beautiful Botanic Gardens will be in full spring bloom for this amazing event which will put Albury on the national gardening map, inspiring great ideas and providing fantastic entertainment for young and old,” he said.

“It will be a wonderful family event and one that we expect to become a highlight of our festival calendar for the local community and visitors from far and wide.”

Council’s Team Leader, Events, Ros Walls, believes Gardenesque has huge potential to grow and thrive.

“It’s really exciting to kick off a brand new festival for Albury and we’re looking forward to it becoming a key drawcard, attracting not only local green thumbs but also gardening enthusiasts visiting our city from far and wide,” she said.

Held on the weekend of 12 and 13 October, Gardenesque is a ticketed event supported by leading industry sponsors and exhibitors to bring the very best of gardening and entertainment to the community.
