Funding boost for sports fields

Local sports people will enjoy improved facilities at three leading sports grounds, thanks to important enhancement work funded by AlburyCity and the Federal Government.

The Member for Farrer, Sussan Ley, has announced the government will contribute $250,000 towards the cost $518,000 to enhance Aloysius Park in South Albury, Haydon Park in West Albury and Alexandra Park in East Albury.

AlburyCity will provide the balance of the funding.

The works will include:

  • New ground levels, sub-surface drainage and couch grass playing surface at Aloysius Park
  • Upgraded irrigation, new sub-surface drainage and minor playing surface improvements at Haydon Park, and
  • Installation of sub-surface drainage and minor playing surface upgrades of the turf hockey fields at Alexandra Park

The projects will ensure higher-standard facilities for football (soccer), hockey, rugby league and touch football teams across the city, especially during the wetter months of winter.

The Commonwealth funding is part of the Federal Government’s Sport 2030 plan which aims to reduce inactivity across Australia by 16 per cent by 2030.

The works will be included in Council's 2019-20 works program.
