Glenroy traffic review begins

AlburyCity traffic engineers have installed traffic counters on busy roads in Glenroy as a review into driver behaviour in the area gets under way.

The counters will gather data on traffic movement and speed to build up a picture of what may need to be done to improve safety in the area.

This data will be complemented by the results of similar monitoring conducted late last year.

In the next stages, cameras will be placed at nearby intersections to gather further information about traffic behaviour. These cameras collect data about vehicle turn movements and do not record number plates or any other identifiable information.

The review was prompted by residents who raised concerns over perceived safety risks at the Gap Road/Hodge St/Wilkinson Street intersections.

The information collected will be used to determine appropriate solutions, which could include the installation of traffic calming devices and other safety improvements.

The review comes as police step up patrols of the Burrows Road area after it was identified as a speeding hot spot in the recent “Stop it or Cop it” campaign.
