A soaring fern now stands in the Botanic Gardens in artistic homage to the native ferns that nestle in quiet, damp corners of the bushland across our region.
The Fern by artist Michael Laubli is a 3.4 metre-high frond made of two components. The stem is created from 10mm steel and the fern fronds have been made from recycled timber. The rich colour and warmth of the timber nicely complements the stretch of solid steel that runs the length of the sculpture.
Symbolically, ferns have been adopted by many cultures around the world and classically represent the renewal of life.
Now standing proudly in the Smollett Street/Wodonga Place corner of the gardens our fern gives new artistic life to one of Albury’s most beloved places.
