Arrive home safely

07 November 2016

It’s six weeks until Christmas and local businesses planning their end of year parties are urged to register for AlburyCity's Arrive Home Safely program.

Businesses that register for the program receive $5 alternative transport vouchers to give to staff to help them arrive home safely. The businesses are asked to contribute $2 for each taxi voucher and AlburyCity covers the remaining $3.

When they register for the program, businesses receive tips on how to host a safe Christmas party and a free Plan B Cooler Bag to the first 100 registrations.

AlburyCity Councillor, Alice Glachan said "anyone planning a party should consider how their guests are going to arrive home safely".

“Workplaces have a responsibility to keep staff safe, the Arrive Home Safely Program is one way of helping to achieve that,” Cr Glachan said.

“Businesses are becoming more aware of their responsibilities when hosting a staff Christmas party. An increasing number are considering different transport options which is really pleasing to hear.

“It’s easy to register online and previous participants have found it a great initiative in helping staff get home safely at our most social time of the year.”

Drink driving is one of the biggest causes of death and injury on NSW roads.

Between January 2011 and December 2015, 4.0% of fatal and injury crashes in Albury involved alcohol as a contributing factor.
