QEII landscaping starts

19 August 2016

Landscaping on the western side of QEII Square will start on Monday, 22 August, signalling the final stages of the much anticipated completion of the new café and youth space at the back of the LibraryMuseum.

The works include construction of a deck around the café, improvements to the laneway from Kiewa Street, advanced tree planting, a new pathway that links the café to the QEII concourse, installation of an irrigation system and new turf.

A temporary fence will be installed that blocks off the entire lawn area on the western side of the square which will prevent pedestrian access via the laneway to Kiewa Street, however it will not impact on the remainder of the park, with plenty of shade, seating and space for people to enjoy.

The landscaping works are part of the QEII Square Master Plan, a long-term vision to create a contemporary, vibrant and exciting inner-city space.
The new café is scheduled to open on Friday 18 November and will also include a dedicated youth space, activity and meeting rooms, indoor/outdoor dining and performance spaces.

Mayor, Henk van de Ven says Council is investing $1.39M in the project, providing a safe and central place for young people to visit, access information, play music and hang out.
