Mountain biking series hits Albury

16 June 2016

Racing in Australia’s richest mountain biking series, the Evocities MTB Series, continued with the second race of the series held in Albury on Sunday 19 June.

The VIC Enduro Series is a six-hour event for solo riders, pairs and teams that was held at Nail Can Hill Reserve in Albury.

AlburyCity Deputy Mayor David Thurley, who started Sunday’s race, said there was great excitement throughout the Evocities about the series return following the outstanding success of 2015 and the excitement of the first race in Bathurst in April 2016.

“The seven race series will attract close to 5,000 participants and visitors to cities with a regional population of more than one million people in regional NSW,” Cr Thurley said.

“The cash prize available for the series is attracting some of Australia’s elite MTB riders.”

Albury was the host for the second event in the seven race series, which includes Tamworth, Wagga Wagga, Dubbo, Armidale and Orange.

“The popularity of MTB is growing rapidly in Australia and the trails included in the Evocities MTB Series are some of the best in NSW,” Cr Thurley said.

“This year each event will also run a dedicated juniors race to encourage greater participation from families and have more people visiting the host cities.”

The generous prize money is on offer with the support of Evocities MTB Series sponsors including Fairfax Media; QantasLink; Forestry Corporation; NSW Mining; Charles Sturt University; Macquarie and Orange Anglican Grammar Schools; Spinifex Recruiting; Maas Group Properties; and Prime 7.
