Festival authors in night at the museum

26 August 2015

Write Around the Murray Festival patrons can spend the night at the LibraryMuseum with authors at a special dinner on Saturday 12 September.

Tickets have gone on sale for the festival dinner, which is one of the highlights of the five-day event.

Authors participating in the festival attend the dinner and guests have the opportunity to choose a table with the writer of their choice when they book.

The LibraryMuseum, corner Swift and Kiewa streets, will be filled with artworks and special lighting for the event, beginning with music, wine and canapes underneath "Batmania"- an installation of more than 100 sculpted fruit bats that will hang from the ceiling.

Festival coordinator Ann-maree Ellis said the dinner has become a highlight of the program and urged people to book early.

"We have almost 70 events over the five days of the festival and come Saturday night, guest authors and festival patrons are ready to let their hair down and relax with a night of entertainment and great food," she said.

"I'm particularly excited about the two great guest speakers at this year's dinner.

"Before dinner we have the wonderful and widely respected poet Andy Kissane whose latest book of poems, Radiance, was shortlisted for the Victorian Premier's Prize for Poetry.

"After dinner we have comedian Adam Richard, who captains the team on the ABC's revamped Spicks and Specks musical quiz show and had a long stint as a radio gossip queen on Triple J and Fox FM.

"Lovers of comedy and science fiction, however, will remember him as Fab in the ABC-TV comedy series Outland, about a gay sci-fi fan club.

"Co-writing the series allowed the rather wicked yet utterly charming comedian to indulge his obsession with all things pop culture and sci-fi."

Ms Ellis said authors frequently comment on how much they enjoy the dinner and the festival as a whole.

"They love the opportunity to speak informally with readers and guests at the events and the dinner is an excellent chance to do this," she said.
