General Manager's contract renewed

23 November 2015

AlburyCity has renewed General Manager Frank Zaknich's contract for another three years.

This gives AlburyCity stability and continuity at a time when the State Government is reforming local government right across NSW.

AlburyCity Councillors supported the decision, which was finalised at tonight's council meeting.

Mr Zaknich thanked Councillors and staff for their support and said he had enjoyed his close to three years in the role so far.

"We're a 'can do' Council working for our growing community – our people are committed to providing responsive and efficient services," he said.

Under Mr Zaknich's leadership, AlburyCity was recently assessed as being Fit for the Future by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) in its recommendations to the State Government about local government reform. The State Government is expected to announce its final position on local government reform by the end of the year.

Mr Zaknich said the Fit for the Future recommendation was recognition of the hard work that had been and continues to be done at AlburyCity.

"Local government reform is both a challenge and an opportunity," he said.

"We stand ready for whatever changes come our way in the knowledge that we have the scale, capacity and financial acumen to support and develop our growing community and continue to play a constructive local and regional leadership role."

Mr Zaknich said other significant achievements by the AlburyCity team under his leadership over the past three years included the development and opening of the new Murray Art Museum Albury, MAMA, returning the AlburyCity financial operating results to positive territory and the recent "employer of choice" award from the NSW Business Chamber.

"I've enjoyed living and working in Albury and look forward to continuing to lead the team at AlburyCity," he said.

Mayor Henk van de Ven thanked Mr Zaknich for his work and said Councillors looked forward to working closely with him to keep AlburyCity going in the right direction.
