Classic Music in the Gardens

05 November 2015

Concert pianist Simon Tedeschi will perform at Music in the Gardens, a free open air concert in Albury Botanic Gardens, on Sunday 15 November at 1pm.

Tedeschi has performed for the likes of Luciano Pavarotti, the Dalai Lama, George W. Bush, Vladimir Putin and Hu Jin Tao.

Tedeschi's performance is presented by AlburyCity and Johnsons MME in association with Musica Viva Australia.

Renowned for his perfect combination of technical brilliance and dazzling showmanship, Tedeschi spends most of his year touring across Australia and internationally.

In Australia, Tedeschi is synonymous with the music of George Gershwin. Described by harmonica legend Larry Adler as "the greatest Gershwin exponent I have ever seen", Tedeschi performed Rhapsody in Blue with Adler on his last-ever tour in Australia – and it was Adler who performed it with Gershwin himself.

"Gershwin has in many ways been the musical accompaniment to my life," Tedeschi says.

"Like any composer, however, George Gershwin was more than an island – he was a repository of cultural influences and experiences that informed his compositional style. From 19th century Russia to Tin Pan Alley, Stride piano to Cuba, Gershwin took everything in but invested them all with his unique sound.

"I look forward to the audience in Albury joining me on a personal journey through some of Gershwin's works and classical composers in his world."

The program will include Gershwin favourites such as I Got Rhythm, Summertime, The Man I Love and Rhapsody in Blue, and more from composers from Gershwin's world, including Rachmaninov, Debussy, Grainger and Fats Waller.
