Terrace seating a big improvement for spectators
In the past year, the Les O’Brien Athletics Precinct has played host to 65,000 athletes and spectators, and accommodated more than 60 school and regional sports carnivals.
This year we’re constructing terrace spectator seating alongside the athletics track’s main straight. This seating will improve viewing, comfort and disability access for all participants, officials and spectators.
We’re investing $340,000 in this improvement, and you can expect:
- Year-round terrace seating for 440 people
- Improved access and viewing areas for wheelchairs, people with disabilities and the elderly
- Reduction in slip hazards, by making redundant the sloping bank currently used by spectators
- Eliminated dust hazard (of sloping bank), which obstructed views in windy conditions.
As well as providing a higher standard facility for our community and user groups, this project alongside other recent upgrades, will allow us to attract new athletics events. These events are anticipated to attract new athletes and attendees to our facility, and as a result, generate additional economic benefit to our City.
