Gas bottle recycling

Empty gas bottles that are still in good condition can be refilled many times in their life. For example, “Swap ‘n Go” return used gas bottles and swap it with a new full bottle.

Gas bottles that are unfit for reuse can be recycled for scrap metal as they are largely made from steel. High pressure gas bottles pose a significant safety hazard if compacted in landfill.

You can recycle your unwanted gas bottle for free at the Albury Recycling Centre.

Gas bottles have residual gas captured for reuse. Undamaged bottles are retested, restamped and entered into the hire industry. Damaged bottles are punctured and recycled as scrap metal.

Applicable Fees & Charges

AlburyCity residents are not charged a fee at the community recycling centre for disposing of gas bottles.

It is a condition of free acceptance that recyclable materials be separated and placed in the supplied recycling areas. Sorting your load to separate general waste and recyclables is recommended.
