Commercial & Retail Investment

A quick drive around the city show it's obvious that the city's commercial sector is on the move. At present there is an estimated 70,000 sqm of commercial floor space in Albury. Major projects such as the $50 million Volt Lane development, a mixed use development that will also add some 500 public car parks to the CBD, and smaller projects located on the fringe of the CBD, will significantly boost this figure.

The Albury CBD is the region's pre-eminent retail destination. It provides the largest range of retail shopping alternatives, including boutique and specialty stores, department stores such as Myer and Target, and many major national retailers. These retailers are complemented by a variety of entertainment, dining, cultural and recreational offerings.

A smaller retail and commercial district centre is located in Lavington, five minutes north of the city centre. In addition to a retail shopping centre, significant opportunities exist for commercial and bulky goods businesses to locate in this area.

Albury's retail sector contributes nearly 10% of Gross Regional Product and 7.5% of regional output. The sector has 4,245 employees, which accounts for one fifth's of the city's employment. There is currently 220,000m² of retail floor space in Albury, including the Harvey Norman Bulky Goods precinct (23,800sqm), Lavington CBD (65,000sqm) and a number of smaller neighbourhood centres (13,100sqm).
