The Albury Art Prize is one of New South Wales' oldest municipal art awards. Over its 64 year old history, a substantial number of renowned artists such as Noel Counihan, Fred Cress, Robert Jacks, Louis Kahan, Deborah Klein, Daniel Moynihan and Imants Tiller have been awarded the prize.

This year the Albury Art Prize is offering $20,000 for an international residency, attracting visual artists from across Australia.

The shortlisted entrants are to exhibited at the Albury Art Gallery with the winner announced on Friday
27 January 2012.

Terms and Conditions 

Australian citizens or residents of Australia are invited to submit one entry in the 2012 Albury Art Prize. AlburyCity Council staff are not eligible to enter.

Entries can be of any visual medium. Artists are responsible for all equipment, hanging and transport necessary for their works.

Eligible works in the proposal must have been executed within two years of 1st May 2012 and must be the original work of the artist.  

The application must include:

  •  Up to 5 images of work for consideration by the selection jury (jpg format)
  •  The artists' curriculum vitae
  • A detailed rationale, project plan and budget for the residency program the artist proposes to undertake
  • Completed online entry form and payment of non-returnable fee of $60.00
  • Electronic files are to be no larger than 2Mb

Entries close 12pm EST Tuesday 1 November 2011. Late entries will not be accepted.

The judging panel will consider the merits of the submitted artwork and residency proposal and develop a shortlist.

Artists will be notified 12th December 2011 by  by email and/or mail if they have been short-listed.

The judge's decision will be final and no discussion or correspondence will be entered into.

Payment of the $20,000 prize money will be made to the successful artist on return of the signed contract agreement and tax invoice. The prize money is exclusive of tax.

Finished work must be delivered to the Albury Art Gallery on or before 4pm Friday 16th January 2012.

Delivered works must be clearly marked on the reverse with artist's name, title of work, medium and date or execution.

Artists will be responsible for cost of freight each way and insurance whilst in transit. Work will be insured whilst in situ at the Albury Art Gallery.

Works should be suitably framed for hanging or ready for exhibiting. It is recommended that framed work have the glass taped and corners protected. If framed under perspex mark clearly so that solvents are not used for cleaning. Should artists wish to submit unframed work for display it must be understood that the work will either be pinned to the wall or secured on the back with 3M adhesive tabs.

Works may be for sale during the exhibition and a 30% commission will apply. Artists must either supply a completed Australian Tax Office 'Statement by a Supplier' or an Australian Business Number and their Goods & Services Tax status.

No commission will be charged on purchases made by AlburyCity.

At the conclusion of the exhibition all work not sold should be collected any week-day between 10.30am and 4.30pm from Wednesday 7th march 2012. Work not collected by  Wednesday 21st March 2012 will be despatched 'Pay on Delivery' to the artists' nominated address. Any work returned or not claimed will be disposed of at the discretion of the management of the Albury Art Gallery.

The artist consents and AlburyCity reserves the right, to reproduce all works received at AlburyCity's discretion, including but not limited to reproduction in all publications and publicity for AlburyCity, inclusive of all electronic/digital or print media. AlburyCity is not liable to pay the artist any fee, royalty or other form of remuneration for this right.
