Uiver replica aircraft up fo sale

Published: 8/3/2012

AlburyCity will begin a nation-wide search this weekend for a suitable buyer to purchase and restore the DC-2 Uiver memorial aircraft.

Council is again calling for Expressions of Interest for the acquisition, for restoration purposes, of the Uiver replica after exhausting all avenues to have the aircraft restored and retained locally.

Mayor Alice Glachan says, "It is with immense regret we have exhausted all local opportunities to retain, preserve and display the Uiver in Albury.  We now have no other option than to call for expressions of interest by other parties for us to effectively 'divest' ourselves of the aircraft".

"The Uiver has significant appeal to our community and the wider region, but regretfully, as a Council, we are not able to retain the aircraft," she says.

The EOI documents make it clear that Council's desire is for the aircraft to find a new home in Australia where it can be restored and placed on public display as a fitting memorial to the pioneers of air travel.

Cr Glachan says the wall mural at the airport is among a number of tributes to the Uiver story and the community spirit displayed the night the original Uiver made its emergency landing in Albury in 1934.

The EOI will close on 3 April.
