AlburyCity is pleased to announce that it will receive a $125,000 grant from the Rudd Government towards the construction of a bike path along Thurgoona Drive and a bike bridge across Woolshed Creek.
AlburyCity Director of Engineering, Brad Ferris, said the 650m path will be constructed between Table Top Road and Woolshed Creek, continuing the existing off-road bike and pedestrian path along Thurgoona Drive.
"The path provides an important link to existing facilities in the Thurgoona area and bike path networks that extend all the way into the Albury CBD and Murray River recreational areas," Mr Ferris said.
"AlburyCity will contribute the remaining funding required for the $250,000 project."
The $125,000 grant, announced by Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Anthony Albanese, is part of the Rudd Government's $40M National Bike Paths Project fund and a key element of the Economic Stimulus Plan.
"This community infrastructure project will support 16 jobs in the local economy," Mr Albanese said.
The project will improve amenity within the Thurgoona area, improving links between residential areas, Charles Sturt University's Thurgoona campus and aged care facilities.
It will also encouraging healthy living and help to reduce carbon emissions over the long term.
