Trainee scoops award

AlburyCity is proud to announce that IT trainee, Paul Seabright, has won first prize in a competition which recognises people who excel in vocational training.

Paul was the regional winner in the IT section the Worldskills International competition.

He was encouraged to enter the competition, formally known as the Skill Olympics, by his teachers at TAFE, where he is studying a Diploma of IT.

Paul, 20, competed against five others in the IT network support category. During the full-day competition, they were required to assemble two personal computers, setup a server and client workstation, install and configure USB and IP peripherals and troubleshoot both network and hardware faults.

Paul will go on to compete in the competition at a national level in Brisbane next year. National winners have the opportunity to compete internationally.

AlburyCity Information Management Group Leader, Rikk Price, said Council was proud of Paul's achievement.

"It highlights the quality of people that our trainee program attracts," Rikk said.

Paul said the award reinforced the value he was getting from his traineeship, as he gained on-the-job experience while also studying at TAFE.

"I was pretty happy with having won," he said.

"It shows that my skills have come a long way since taking on the traineeship at AlburyCity."
