AlburyCity today appointed Michael Stanton as its Leisure Facilities Team Leader.
The new position extends on a role previously held by Paul Gooding, who managed Albury Sports Stadium and the athletics track.
As Leisure Facilities Team Leader, Michael, 36, will also be responsible for managing Albury's two swimming pools. He will also have a strategic planning and development role, which encompasses Council's Sports Stadium Master Plan, Aquatic Strategy and athletic track upgrades.
AlburyCity Director of Community and Recreation, James Jenkins, said Michael's strong experience in both facility management and strategic planning recommended him for the position.
Michael holds qualifications in recreation planning and management. He has worked in leisure for more than 10 years', holding positions with Wyndham City Council, Shoalhaven City Council, Spalding Australia and AlburyCity.
As AlburyCity's Recreation and Open Space Planner, he developed strategies for aquatic facilities and broader recreational management, including Council's 2005 Community Plan.
"Having worked for AlburyCity before, I've jumped at the chance to re-join the organisation and complete some of the work I started," said Michael.
"It is really rewarding to have left town and acquired a range of new skills, which will be really valuable in this new role."
Michael returned to Albury 18 months ago, where he has gained experience in infrastructure management while working for Gateway Community Health.
James said he was impressed by Michael's strong background in working with sporting clubs and associations, managing leisure facilities, policy and strategy development in relation to recreational areas and facilities, and contract management and co-ordination.
"Council wants to ensure the community gets good value out of the investment it makes in leisure," said James.
"Michael has the skills required to maximise the number of people using and enjoying all of our leisure facilities. His strong experience in facility management and strategic planning are going to complement the staff we now have working in recreation."
Michael will take up the position on Monday 26 October.
