Sport Funding

AlburyCity has opened a second round of grant funding for local sporting and recreation groups under its Sport and Recreation Grants program.

The $25,000 funding pool is available for non-profit community sporting organisations wishing to upgrade their sporting and recreational facilities.

AlburyCity Councillor and Sports Albury Chairman, Henk van de Ven, said all sporting groups and associations are eligible to apply for any infrastructure projects.

"Suitable projects included things like the upgrade of clubhouses, cricket nets, tennis courts, the addition of shade sails or the improvement of spectator seating," he said.

"This represents a great opportunity for Albury's sporting groups to get in and make some significant improvements, so make the most of it and don't miss the chance to apply."

In the past, individual grants of about $4000 have been allocated. At least half of the total cost of the project, as assessed by Council, must be provided by the applicant.

Higher priority will be given to projects which are accessible to a wide cross section of the community and which had been developed in response to obvious local recreation needs.

AlburyCity recently held a grant-writing workshop to support clubs seeking grant funding.

The closing date for submissions is Friday 30 October.
