AlburyCity has a new Youth Council of nine people who are all keen to give youth a voice and give something back to their community.
James Fallon High School student, Jaclyn O'Connor, has been elected AlburyCity's new Youth Mayor, having served last year as Deputy Mayor.
Trinity Anglican College student, Eva McEntee, has been elected Deputy Mayor, having spent last year as a Youth Councillor.
The seven other Youth Councillors to have been elected are Kate Millward, Tom Murphy, Rachele Armstrong, Angela Larkin, Laura Vogel, Milanka Ristic and Cameron Richter.
The nine-strong team, all aged 14-17, live, work or attend school/TAFE within the Albury Local Government Area.
AlburyCity Mayor, Patricia Gould, congratulated the young people on being selected as Youth Councillors.
"We have a really great young team and I believe they will do a wonderful job in their role of being a voice for young people within the community," Cr Gould said.
Cr Gould said Youth Councils were a valuable way to encourage young people to participate in the community, providing them with a sense of community ownership.
The first major project on the agenda of Youth Council will be to implement a number of projects that came out of the recent Youth Forum. They will produce a youth card that will list local services for young people, look at ways of improving river safety, liaise with local police to work on safety issues affecting young people and plan events for young people in Lavington, Albury, North Albury and Thurgoona.
The Youth Council will also provide AlburyCity with an avenue to consult with young people on youth issues and needs.
