Interactive art based on advanced technology

You can step into the ocean with no risk of getting wet at an exciting new multimedia exhibition at the LibraryMuseum.

Experimenta Playground is an exhibition based on advanced technology.

One work, Immersion, features an animated three-dimensional ocean scene that is projected onto the floor. Set foot into it, and you can explore a rockpool, an underwater cave and the ocean's dark depths as you interact with animated creatures that respond to your shadows. Animated eels will generate lightening bolts, jellyfish will glow and puffer fish will swell in response to your movements. Each sea creature has a specific sound, so your interaction will also create an underwater symphony.

The touring exhibition is presented by Experimenta, a Melbourne-based contemporary art organisation that commissions, exhibits and promotes media and technology-based art.

Experimenta Executive Director, Liz Hughes, opened the exhibition at 5.30pm on Thursday 23 July. Liz has worked in the film and media art sectors for 15 years as an innovative filmmaker, curator and senior arts manager. Her films have screened at more than 130 film festivals and won 21 international awards.

Exhibition entry is free.
