AlburyCity has completed work on a new pedestrian refuge which will make crossing Thurgoona Drive safer for school children, cyclists and pedestrians.
AlburyCity Mayor, Patricia Gould, said the refuge was constructed in direct response to feedback from the community.
"With the number of children crossing the road to get to Thurgoona Public School, Council agreed that it was a major priority to ensure they were safe," she said.
"We must also encourage drivers to take care, slow down and look out for the many pedestrians and cyclists who cross Thurgoona Drive."
The new refuge, which links to the new shared off-road pathway on Thurgoona Drive, will improve access to school, Ernst Grant Oval, parks and homes.
AlburyCity Road Safety Officer Kate Kohne said the refuge is one of seven projects that Council has undertaken this financial year to improve pedestrian safety.
"This demonstrates Council's continued commitment to the safety of our most vulnerable road users," Ms Kohne said.
The Thurgoona Drive refuge was funded by AlburyCity and the Roads and Traffic Authority.
