What is Twitter?
Twitter is a web-based short messaging service, also known as micro-blogging, with the capacity for group and private messages of 140 characters or less, also known as 'Tweets'.
Twitter can be accessed via internet browsers, email, mobile phones and other web enabled devices.
Twitter is a free service that allows users to answer the simple question 'what are you doing?'.
Why use Twitter?
Twitter users can 'follow' AlburyCity to receive updates on what AlburyCity is saying.
What will be said on Twitter?
AlburyCity will use Twitter to compliment existing communications, alert residents of news and events or ask for advice or opinion during business hours only (8:30am - 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday) or in exceptional circumstances i.e. following a Council Meeting decision.
Topics to be posted on Twitter will be:
- Council decisions
- Events at AlburyCity facilities
- Announcements from the Mayor and General Manager
- News relevant to AlburyCity and the residents of Albury
- Official notices i.e. changes to water restrictions
- In-kind support for third party events
- Other topics to initiate discussions (unless topic is included in list of what won't be said on Twitter)
What won't be said on Twitter?
- Contentious issues that include Councillors or AlburyCity staff
- Politically motivated issues
- Official responses to enquiries by residents or any other organisations including Government departments.
