Albury’s LibraryMuseum has won the Cultural Infrastructure Award in the Local Government and Shires Association Cultural Awards 08.

AlburyCity’s entry into the awards highlighted how the building has become a city landmark and community hub since its opening on July 27, 2007.

The submission highlighted how ambitious the LibraryMuseum project was – to create a signature facility that had the dignity of a civic building and the ability to speak to future generations.

The dramatic orange crossed façade is a city landmark, and the building is a community hub with more than 800 people coming each day to borrow books, browse, visit exhibitions, attend storytime, surf the net, research family history, attend meetings, shop, listen to music or to simply hang-out.

The awards were presented at a dinner at Parliament House in Sydney on Friday night. Cr Kevan Porter and Group Leader Community and Recreation, Kevin Wilson, accepted the award on behalf of AlburyCity.

The award can be viewed on the LGSA website.
