AlburyCity Commits to Emergency Risk Management

Posted 29 April 2008

Want to be assured that Albury is prepared for an emergency?

A new Emergency Risk Management Plan has been developed through the Albury Local Emergency Management Committee which includes Council, the SES, NSW Rural Fire Service, Police and other emergency service organisations.

The 85 page draft plan was endorsed by Council last night and is now on public exhibition for comment until 30 May. Committee Chair Mr Greg Blackie said the comprehensive report had been developed on behalf of the committee by consultants Echelon Australia.

The plan shifts the focus beyond disaster response and reaction towards anticipation and mitigation, Mr Blackie said.

“Community and stakeholder consultation is key to the project, and now the draft plan is endorsed by Council we will invite public comment for a month,” Mr Blackie said.

Mr Blackie said the plan would contribute to a safer and better prepared community capable of responding to the effects of a disaster.
