Harvesting of softwood plantation to start

Harvesting of a 75 hectare softwood plantation at AlburyCity’s Waterview Wastewaster Treatment Facility will commence on Monday 13 March.

The plantation is owned by AlburyCity in a commercial joint venture with the Forestry Corporation of NSW.

The trees were planted in the late 90s as part of the development of the Waterview facility, with reclaimed water produced from the plant used to irrigate both softwood and hardwood plantations around the site and also at Wonga Wetlands.

The Forestry Corporation has secured a commercial agreement with a third party and is now preparing to clear the plantation. The works are expected to take around 12 weeks.

AlburyCity Mayor, Kevin Mack says as part of the rehabilitation of the site, a 10 year vegetation management plan is being developed to ensure adequate screening of the treatment facility and to return the site to its natural state which includes grassy box gum woodland and environmental corridors for native animals.
