Street party to celebrate Wagga Road
A street party will be held on Saturday (21 May) 10am-1pm to celebrate the completion of Stage 1 of the $2.6M project to beautify Wagga Road, Lavington.
The street party will be held in the car park next to KFC and there will be a free sausage sizzle, face painting, a jumping castle, giveaways and prizes courtesy of Wagga Road Traders.
Deputy Mayor David Thurley said work to improve Wagga Road had been identified by the community as a priority through the Lavington CBD upgrade community consultation and he encouraged people to come and see the completed first stage.
“I urge the community to come along, enjoy the free celebrations and support the Wagga Road traders,” Cr Thurley said.
“Wagga Road is an important gateway and business centre and these improvements were much needed.
“We have planted more than 80 mature trees - 35 in the centre median and 46 in planters near car parks – and 1400 native grasses.
“A fully automated irrigation system has been installed and nature strips will receive new topsoil and new grass seeds.”
Cr Thurley said Council had consulted extensively with shopkeepers and traders over the past two years about the improvements to Wagga Road and it was great to see the results.
“Wagga Road is such a priority that we’re going to continue work to improve it, replacing the footpath and kerb and up MacDonald Road,” he said.
The NSW Government has supplied funding of $437,750 over 10 years through the NSW Local Infrastructure Renewal Scheme to improve Wagga Road.
The street party Saturday 10am-1pm will be jointly held by AlburyCity, Albury Northside Chamber of Commerce and 1494 2AY.
