Exhibition explores Albury in WWI

21 April 2016

An exhibition that explores the experiences of people from Albury and the surrounding districts during The Great War is on show at the LibraryMuseum from Saturday 23 April.

The pop-up exhibition includes uniforms, equipment and documents from WWI with personalities highlighted from across the region including Albury, Beechworth and Walla Walla.

"ANZAC Day is an extremely significant day for our entire nation," Mayor Cr Henk van de Ven said.

"It is important that we remember the contributions and sacrifices of locals at this time and this exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on those contributions."

Images from the collection of Corowa local Murray Steven Gyles will also be on display. Gyles enlisted in 1916 and served with the 1st Field Squadron in Egypt, Palestine and Syria.

As part of the exhibition visitors can view augmented reality content via the APostive app which is available on iOS or Android.

Albury and WWI will continue at the LibraryMuseum until Sunday 15 May.

In a unique opportunity for schools and community organisations to bring history into the classroom or community, following the exhibition the pop-up style exhibits will be available for hire by groups such as schools. retirement homes and aged care facilities.
