360L recycling bins now available for households

05 December 2016

AlburyCity is offering residents who need greater capacity to manage their household recycling to upsize to a bigger bin.

For only an additional $20, households can upsize their 240 litre yellow-lidded bin to a 360L bin.

Mayor, Kevin Mack says with the festive season fast approaching, now is the time to consider upsizing especially if family and friends are visiting or if residents are entertaining more.

“If you consider the amount of Christmas wrapping, cardboard packaging, glass bottles and other recyclables that accumulate at this time of the year, having a bigger bin makes good sense. It also means there’s less likelihood of these items ending up in the general waste stream,” Cr Mack said.

This program is part of the Halve Waste campaign that began in 2010 with the objective of achieving a 50% reduction in waste to landfill by 2020. Since the campaign began, there has been a 48% reduction in household waste being landfilled, and this initiative will further help Halve Waste achieve its target.

“We want to assist households who may be struggling with the current waste collection service. Offering larger recycling bins will reduce any over-flow and increase household recycling rates, “Cr Mack said.
