A magical Picnic in the Gardens
It's time to find some courage, and a little bit of heart as Picnic in the Gardens returns to Albury's Botanic Gardens on Sunday 8 November.
The littlest citizens of Albury will be entertained by Dorothy and Toto, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and a Lion as they follow the magical yellow path on a quest to discover the mysterious Wizard of Oz.
The event kicks off from 10am, with a wide array of free entertainment and activities planned for children and their parents. Festivities will include giant flamingo stilt walkers, a pride of cheeky roving lions, miniature pony rides, a scarecrow making workshop, mega janga, a farmyard nursery, live music and dance performances and a host of other activities.
AlburyCity Mayor Henk van de Ven said: "Picnic in the Gardens has become an annual event that local families really look forward to. We're expecting hundreds of people to come along once again and enjoy a terrific day in Albury's stunning Botanic Gardens."
Cr van de Ven said this year's event, inspired by the classic 1939 Children's movie The Wizard of Oz, will provide a colourful backdrop to entertain and delight young children and their parents.
"The gardens are looking spectacular at the moment, so with Picnic in the Gardens on 8 November and another wonderful Music in the Gardens planned for the following Sunday, there really is no place like home," Cr van de Ven said.
Children are encouraged to dress as their favourite characters. "We're expecting lots of blue gingham and sparkly ruby shoes, along with some wonderful scarecrows," Cr van de Ven said.
Food and drink will be available for purchase throughout the day, or families are welcome to bring along a picnic.
Live music will be provided by Albury Jazz favourites Tony Lukav and the Zoot Suit Trio and the Albury City Band.
