Kiewa Street redevelopment update

12 August 2014

AlburyCity crews have made good progress on the Kiewa Street redevelopment thanks to improved weather conditions over the past week.

Tomorrow (Wednesday 13 August), pedestrian access will be temporarily shifted to the south of the new crossing, while he northern section is prepared for sealing. This is scheduled for Sunday 24 August and will also include sealing the new pedestrian crossing, which will then be re-opened.

Construction is now underway on the southern section of Kiewa Street with new kerb and gutter being installed as well as tree pits.

When complete, the upgraded streetscape will feature 13 advanced Chinese Elm trees with cobble stone surrounds located in the angle parking bays.

A new feature will be the four rain gardens at the signalised pedestrian crossing using water sensitive urban design principles to re-harvest and filter rainwater.

There'll also be new:

  • Bench seating
  • Stylish lighting
  • Bike racks
  • Bollards
  • Large format paving
  • Centre medians with drought tolerant landscaping

AlburyCity continues to remind shoppers that all retailers are open for business and access to the shops is via the existing walkways and the new temporary crossing. Shoppers should use the underground car park at Centro Albury and also the Volt Lane Car Park which has plenty of capacity.
