Council says YES
A lease for the former Lavington Library site on Griffith Road will be offered to Albury Wodonga Youth Emergency Services Ltd (YES).
Council agreed to enter lease arrangements with YES at its Extraordinary Council Meeting tonight, allowing the popular youth centre The Place to continue operating from the premises.
The youth centre had previously been operated by the Albury Wodonga Community Network Incorporated (AWCNI). But the group's disbanding in September prompted the Department of Family and Community Services to contract The Place's operation to YES.
YES has recently been operating The Place from the Mirambeena Community Centre. A lease will be now be offered to YES on the same terms and conditions as the previous arrangement with AWCNI.
Mayor Kevin Mack said it was a great outcome for the city's young people.
"It was unfortunate when the AWCNI decided to disband, but our primary concern was making sure The Place could continue operating. It's a vital service for young people and we're keen to see that support continue."
"This process will ensure a seamless transition while securing the ongoing delivery of high-quality youth based services in the heart of Lavington."
