Businesses take action on reducing waste

15 July 2014

Albury businesses keen to reduce waste and increase their recycling efforts are about to get a helping hand.

AlburyCity has secured $160,000 in funding under the NSW Government's Bin Trim Business Program to help businesses measure their waste and receive hands-on advice on how to reduce, reuse and recycle materials.

It has engaged MRA Consulting Group to conduct waste assessments of 250 small to medium sized business in the Albury, Corowa and Greater Hume Shires.

Following on-site inspections, MRA will develop tailored action plans for each business to help better manage their waste, which should result in cost savings and improved recycling rates.

The assessments will take place over the next two months. Businesses can register their interest via the Halve Waste website or by contacting their Council.

AlburyCity Team Leader Waste Management, Andrea Baldwin says it's a great program and businesses have been keen to jump on board, which show a commitment to reducing waste to landfill.
